"Praying for Boys" ~ End of the Month Wrap-Up

"Because of television and the internet,
our boys will grow up with no shortage of
glamorous people to look up to.

They'll be tempted to look at their lives
and think that to really matter in this world,
they'll have to do something big.

But that's not the truth.

I'm convinced God cares less about
how much we accomplish in life-
the 'great things' we do in His name-
than He does about how we respond to
the daily things
He allows us to experience.

I don't want my boys to aspire to greatness
by the world's standards,
or to feel that they must do something big
in order to count for the kingdom of God.
But if there's something children
(and adults, for that matter)
have trouble with, it's waiting.

It's much harder to wait and be faithful
to God in the small things
than it is to get the glory all at once.

My little boys often hear me say I need to see them
be faithful in the small things before I can give them
the responsibility of the big things.

They don't like it, but it's the general way
of the world and a good lesson to learn early on.

Then, if God ever gives our boys the big dreams
of their hearts, they'll have the substance
to be ready for it."

-Brooke McGlothlin-

"Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season;
reprove, rebuke, and exhort,
with complete patience and teaching.
For the time is coming when people will not endure
sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate
for themselves teachers to suit their own passions,
and will turn away from listening to the truth
and wander off into myths."

2 Timothy  4 : 2-4
